Story:
- This is the white rice I grew up eating for many meals, made by my father and his parents. Great for the saucy stews and braises my grandparents love making!
Ingredients:
- olive oil
- 1/4-1/2 yellow or white onion, diced
- pinch salt
- 1 cup long-grain white rice (basmati and jasmine also work great)
- 1 1/4 cups water
Instructions:
- Take some diced onion and fry it in a pot on medium.
- Once onion turns translucent, add rice and mix well.
- Fry, stirring frequently, until rice has turned translucent and then opaque again (or starts browning).
- Add water and stir well, then cover. Once water is just starting to bubble, turn on very low and cook 20 minutes.
- Turn off heat and fluff.
